FK UNS Research Group Holds Educational Session on Urinary Incontinence Prevention in Women

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Medical Staff Group (KSM) of Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital (RSUD), in collaboration with the Indonesian Doctors' Wives Association (IIDI) of Klaten Regency and Klaten Islamic General Hospital (RSU Islam Klaten), organized an educational session as part of a community service initiative funded by a research grant from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS). Centered on the theme "Education on Urinary Incontinence Prevention for Menopausal Women with IIDI," the event took place in the 3rd-floor meeting room of RSU Islam Klaten on Saturday (July 4, 2026).
The event, held from 08:00 to 11:00 WIB, featured expert speakers who provided in-depth education to the participants. The first speaker, Dr. dr. Uki Retno Budihastuti, Sp.OG, Subsp.F.E.R, discussed the importance of recognizing menopausal symptoms early so that women can adequately prepare for this phase of life.
The second speaker, Dr. dr. Asih Anggraeni, Sp.OG, Subsp.Urogin Re., gave a specific presentation on urinary disorders associated with menopause—particularly urinary incontinence, a condition involving difficulty controlling urine flow that often impairs the quality of life for older women. Meanwhile, dr. Eriana Melinawati, Sp.OG, Subsp.F.E.R, served as the third speaker, educating the audience on practical steps for maintaining a healthy lifestyle during menopause.

Beyond the presentation of theory, this community outreach initiative included a practical session featuring a group Kegel exercise class. This session was led and supervised by Dr. Agung Sari Wijayanti, Sp.OG, and Dr. Putri Eka Pratiwi, Sp.OG, with the aim of strengthening participants' pelvic floor muscles as a preventive measure against urinary disorders.
The objective of this research group grant activity was to raise public awareness and understanding—particularly among women—that urinary incontinence during menopause can be effectively prevented and managed. Furthermore, the initiative sought to encourage women to seek early medical consultation with an obstetrician-gynecologist if they experience urinary issues or other post-menopausal symptoms, rather than hesitating or fearing a visit to the doctor.
It is hoped that following this educational session and Kegel training, women will no longer view urinary disorders merely as an inevitable consequence of aging to be passively accepted, but rather as a condition that can be addressed proactively to ensure a healthy and happy life in their later years.
