Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) again held an inauguration and Hippocratic oath-taking ceremony on Tuesday (August 18, 2026). This event marked the 236th cohort inaugurated by the UNS Faculty of Medicine since its establishment in 1976. A total of 142 new doctors—comprising 37 men and 105 women—were inaugurated and took their oaths during the ceremony.

Held at the UNS G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium, the event was attended by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si; the Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K); vice deans of FK UNS; the Chair of the FK UNS Academic Senate, Prof. Ari Natalia Probandari, dr., M.P.H., Ph.D; the Deputy Director of HR and Education at Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital (RSUD), dr. Agung Pribadi, M.Kes., Sp.B., M.Si.Med; the Deputy Director of Education and Research at UNS Hospital, Prof. Dr. Diah Kurnia Mirawati, dr., Sp.S(K); the Second Vice Chair of the FK UNS Alumni Association, dr. Supanji Raharja, Sp.OG(K)., MARS; the Head of the Undergraduate Medicine Study Program at FK UNS, Betty Suryawati, dr., M.Biomed Sci., Ph.D., Sp.MK; and the Head of the Medical Profession Study Program, Dr. Pepi Budianto, dr., Sp.S(K).

In the report presented by the Vice Dean for Academic and Research Affairs at the UNS Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Eti Poncorini Pamungkasari, dr., M.Pd., it was noted that the 142 participants taking Hippocratic Oath had successfully passed the National Competency Examination for Medical Professional Students (UKNPDPD) held in May 2026. A total of 152 candidates participated in the UKNPDPD, with 142 (93%) passing; notably, the pass rate for first-time takers was 97% (142 out of 146 candidates).

At this induction and oath-taking ceremony, 37 participants graduated with honors (cum laude). The highest Grade Point Average (GPA) was achieved by Dr. Rafli Yuda Pamungkas with a score of 3.87, while the average GPA for the cohort was 3.70, with an average study duration of two years and six months.

In his remarks, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., advised the new physicians not to rely solely on professional competence but also to make empathy an integral part of patient care. "In the medical profession, competence is the foundation, but empathy is the soul," he emphasized.

According to him, patients do not always present with purely medical issues; they may also arrive carrying fear, anxiety, hope, or even despair. Therefore, a doctor's ability to listen, understand, and treat patients with dignity is just as important as their clinical skills.

“Keep learning, as medical science continues to evolve. Keep honing your skills, as public health challenges grow increasingly complex. Yet, at the same time, never lose sight of your humanity,” he advised.

The Dean of the UNS Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P (K), urged the new doctors to be prepared to face various challenges while also being capable of seizing the vast career opportunities available in the medical field.

“Every generation faces its own unique challenges. What matters most is our ability to confront and overcome those challenges,” he advised.

The new doctors were also encouraged to face competition with confidence. Graduates of the UNS Faculty of Medicine are considered to possess the necessary competence and a track record of achievements that serve as a foundation for continued growth.

“You cannot achieve success in isolation. Doctors must be able to collaborate with fellow physicians, other healthcare professionals, hospitals, patients, patients' families, and various other stakeholders,” he stated.

In addition to professional competence, the new doctors were reminded to always uphold integrity, honesty, empathy, responsibility, discipline, and compassion for others. Prof. Reviono also highlighted the importance of maintaining ethical conduct in the digital realm, as social media activity forms part of a doctor's professional footprint.

With the induction of this 236th inauguration and Hippocratic oath-taking ceremony, the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Sebelas Maret—established in 1976—has graduated a total of 7,680 doctors. These professionals are now distributed across the country, dedicating their expertise to various sectors, including healthcare services, education, and research, and serving in government, private practice, the military (TNI) and police (POLRI), and other capacities.
