Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an induction ceremony for 143 new students of the Medical Specialist Education Program (PPDS) and Sub-Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDSS) for the first intake of the 2026/2027 academic year. The ceremony took place at the FK UNS Auditorium on Tuesday (August 18, 2026). These new students were selected through the UNS New Student Admission Selection (SPMB) process, which began last April.

The induction ceremony for the PPDS and PPDSS students was attended by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si.; the UNS Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Internationalization, and Information, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D.; the Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K); FK UNS Vice Deans; the Head of the UNS SPMB Office, Prof. Drs. Sutarno, M.Sc., Ph.D.; the Director of Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital, Yunita Dyah Suminar, SKM., M.Sc., M.Si.; the Deputy Director for Education and Research, Prof. Dr. Diah Kurnia Mirawati, dr., Sp.S(K).; and the Heads of the PPDS Study Programs at FK UNS.

In his report, Prof. Irwan stated that the new students inducted today had successfully passed two stages of selection. The first stage was conducted online, covering the Academic Potential Test (TPA) and English proficiency. Students uploaded their BAPPENAS TPA certificates and TOEFL ITP/IELTS certificates via the UNS SPMB application. A total of 392 participants took part in the first stage of selection, with 355 participants—or 92.21%—successfully passing this stage.

“A total of 355 participants passed the first stage and proceeded to the second stage of the selection process, which is being conducted in person. The second stage comprises several assessments, including a physical health examination (MCU), a psychological test, a subject-specific knowledge test, a portfolio interview with the Study Program leadership, an interview with university leadership, and an interview with the board of directors of Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital,” Prof. Irwan explained.

Prof. Irwan reported that, based on the results of the second selection stage, 143 participants passed and have become prospective students for the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) and the Sub-specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDSS). These 143 prospective students come from 24 study programs, distributed as follows: 11 in Anesthesiology and Reanimation; 3 in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery; 3 in Thoracic, Cardiac, and Vascular Surgery; 10 in General Surgery; 2 in Clinical Nutrition; 10 in Pediatrics; 3 in Ophthalmology; 5 in Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ENT-HNS); 10 in Psychiatry; and 6 in Neurology.

Additionally, there are 6 students in Cardiology and Vascular Medicine; 3 in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; 1 in Family Medicine and Primary Care; 6 in Dermatology and Venereology; 10 in Obstetrics and Gynecology; 5 in Orthopedics and Traumatology; 8 in Clinical Pathology; 13 in Internal Medicine; 12 in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine; 7 in Radiology; 2 in Surgery (Sub-specialist); 1 in Pediatrics (Sub-specialist); 3 in Internal Medicine (Sub-specialist); and 2 in Obstetrics and Gynecology (Sub-specialist).

On this occasion, Prof. Hartono highlighted the highly competitive nature of admission to the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) and Sub-specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDSS) at the UNS Faculty of Medicine.

“For this reason, you should be proud to have been accepted into the PPDS and PPDSS programs at the UNS Faculty of Medicine. You must therefore be fully committed to your education and strictly adhere to all regulations established by both the Faculty and Dr. Moewardi Hospital. Avoid any issues that could disrupt your training—whether minor infractions or serious violations such as violence or bullying. Uphold your integrity, ethics, and professionalism throughout your education,” Prof. Hartono stated.
