Faculty of Medicine UNS Graduates 29 New Specialist Doctors, Ready to Strengthen National Health Services


 

The Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta graduated 29 new specialist doctors at a graduation ceremony held at the FK UNS Auditorium on Thursday, February 26, 2026. This graduation marked the completion of specialist medical education and the beginning of the graduates' dedication to strengthening national health services.

In her report, the Vice Dean for Academic and Research of the Faculty of Medicine, UNS, Prof. Dr. Eti Poncorini Pamungkasari, dr., M.Pd., stated that the 29 specialist doctors came from various Specialist Medical Education Programs (PPDS). The largest number came from the Psychiatry PPDS with 11 graduates, followed by the Internal Medicine PPDS with 8 graduates, and the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine PPDS with 6 graduates. In addition, the Obstetrics and Gynecology PPDS graduated 2 specialist doctors, while 1 graduate each came from the Clinical Pathology PPDS and the Cardiology and Blood Vessels PPDS. According to her, this achievement reflects the real contribution of the Faculty of Medicine, UNS, in meeting the need for specialist doctors in various health service fields.

The graduate with the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) at this graduation ceremony was Olivia Geraldine Roxanne, dr., Sp.P., with a GPA of 3.90, from the Residential Program in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine. Meanwhile, the youngest graduate was Hana Indriyah Dewi, dr., Sp.PD., from the Residential Program in Internal Medicine, at 29 years and 11 months old at the time of graduation.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, UNS, Prof. Dr. dr. Reviono, Sp.P(K), emphasized that the Faculty consistently ranks among the top four medical schools in Indonesia, along with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Indonesia (UI), the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Airlangga, based on international rankings recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. This demonstrates the Faculty's commitment to maintaining the quality of education and producing superior and competent graduates.

The Director of Dr. Moewardi Regional Hospital, Dr. Zulfachmi Wahab, Sp.PD., also expressed his appreciation to the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) for its contribution in producing specialist doctors who are professional, have integrity, and have character. He emphasized that the graduation of specialist doctors is not the end, but rather the beginning of greater dedication in serving the community. He also acknowledged that the process of specialist doctor education is a long journey full of challenges and sacrifices. Dr. Zulfachmi also conveyed the commitment of Dr. Moewardi Regional Hospital as a major teaching hospital to continue supporting the improvement of the quality of education and health services.

Meanwhile, the Vice Rector for Academic and Research at UNS, Prof. Dr. Fitria Rahmawati, S.Si., M.Si., congratulated the graduates on their successful completion of their specialist doctor degrees. She emphasized that this graduation marks the beginning of a significant responsibility to provide professional healthcare services, uphold ethics, and provide services without discrimination based on patient background. In addition to medical competence, graduates are also expected to possess non-technical skills such as communication, leadership, critical thinking, and networking skills.

UNS, she continued, remains committed to improving the quality of specialist doctor education, including by opening 10 new study programs, including subspecialty programs, as part of efforts to strengthen its contribution to national health development. "Be UNS alumni with morals and noble character, and uphold UNS's good name through your work and achievements," Prof. Fitria advised.

The Chairman of the UNS Medical Faculty Alumni Association, Dr. Muhammad Husen Prabowo, MPH., emphasized that the graduation of specialist doctors marks a turning point in their journey towards service as professional physicians. He emphasized that specialist doctors serve not only as healthcare providers but also as agents of change, contributing to the development of the nation's health system. "Graduates are expected to view the medical profession as a form of devotion and worship, while also upholding the professionalism and good name of their alma mater," said Dr. Muhammad Husen Prabowo.

Representing the new specialist doctor graduates for the February 2026 period, Dr. Lalu Ryan Novari, Sp.P., expressed his gratitude for graduating after a long and challenging educational process. He emphasized that the specialist doctor title is a mandate to maintain integrity, professionalism, and humility in serving the community. He also expressed his gratitude to his family, lecturers, and teaching hospital for their support and guidance throughout their studies.

With the graduation of specialist doctors in February 2026, since its founding in 1976, the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sebelas Maret (FK UNS) has graduated 2,101 specialist doctors. These alumni are spread throughout the country and have dedicated their knowledge to various institutions in healthcare, education, and research, as well as serving as specialist doctors in government, private companies, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI/POLRI), and other institutions.
