UNS Faculty of Medicine Holds Inauguration and Professional Oath-Taking Ceremony for Midwives


 

The Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta once again held the inauguration and oath-taking ceremony for midwives. This was the third such event since the establishment of the Midwifery Professional Education Study Program. The ceremony took place in the FK UNS Auditorium and was broadcast live on the FK UNS YouTube channel on Tuesday (12/23/2025).

The inauguration and oath-taking ceremony were attended by the Dean of the FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K), along with the Vice Deans of the FK UNS; the Deputy Director of Education and Research at the UNS Hospital (RS), Prof. Dr. Diah Kurnia Mirawati, dr., Sp.S(K); the Chair of the FK UNS Academic Senate, Prof. Ari Natalia Probandari, dr., M.P.H., Ph.D; the Head of the FK UNS Undergraduate Midwifery Study Program, Dr. Ika Sumiyarsi, SST, M.Kes; Head of the Midwifery Professional Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, UNS, Siti Nurhidayati, SST, Bdn., M.Keb; Head of the PC IBI Surakarta, Rofiatun Chasanah, S.ST, Bdn.

The Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Negeri Surabaya (FK UNS), Dr. Ratih Dewi Yudhani, dr., M.Sc., presented several reports regarding the implementation of the education program. She stated that 18 students participated in the Indonesian Midwife Professional Competency Test in October 2025. All participants passed the test with a 100 percent pass rate among first-time applicants.

From the inauguration and oath-taking of midwives for the second period, the average Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) for the students reached 3.86. All graduated with honors after an average of one year and three months of study. The highest achievement was achieved by Riswi Alinda Fatmawati with a GPA of 3.98.

Rofiatun Chasanah, S.ST., Bdn., Chairperson of the Surakarta IBI PC, stated that the midwife oath-taking ceremony marked the beginning of the new midwives' commitment to their profession.

"The oath we just took is a sacred pledge that affirms the commitment of midwives to carry out their professional practice with the highest ethical standards, focusing on the welfare of mothers and children, and upholding humanitarian principles," she said.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, UNS, Prof. Reviono, expressed his appreciation and a special message to the new midwives. He emphasized that the midwifery profession plays a strategic role in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates. Furthermore, as trained health workers, midwives also play a vital role in maintaining the reproductive health of the community.

"You are all at the forefront of the world of health, along with other health workers," she said.

Furthermore, Prof. Reviono advised the new midwives to uphold the good name of their alma mater, FK UNS, in carrying out their professional roles.

"It's actually quite simple. If you all work professionally with the competencies you've mastered, coupled with high integrity such as honesty and discipline, you will uphold your own good name, the reputation of your profession, your family's reputation, and the reputation of your alma mater, the Faculty of Medicine, UNS," he said.

UNS is committed to continuing to produce professional, ethical, and competent midwives. With this inauguration, UNS has graduated a total of 44 midwives since the midwifery professional program opened in 2022. Graduates are expected to serve in various fields of healthcare, education, and research. This inauguration and midwifery professional oath also illustrate UNS's commitment to achieving the third SDG, a Healthy and Prosperous Life, and the fourth SDG, Quality Education.
