The Research Ethics Committee (KEP) of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held a two-day training titled "Advanced Basic Ethics, Experimental Animal Research Ethics, and Accreditation Preparation," from November 24-25, 2025. The training took place in the FK UNS Auditorium and was held as a hybrid program.

The event was opened by the Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K). In his remarks, he emphasized that ethical integrity is the primary foundation of a medical educational institution's reputation.

"An activity like this is crucial for an educational institution like ours. I hope this activity will further strengthen the FK UNS KEP's readiness for the national accreditation assessment," he said.

On the first day, participants received a comprehensive discussion on regulations and animal testing. Drs. Ondri Dwi Sampurno, M.Sc., Apt., as a resource person, presented material on the KEPK accreditation instrument as well as Basic and Advanced Ethics. The discussion then moved on to animal welfare with Drh. Imron Rosyadi, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. Suyatmi, dr., M.Biomed.Sci., emphasizing the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) principle in animal testing.

The second day's activities shifted their focus to the technical aspects of digitalization through a simulation of the Health Research Ethics Management Information System (SIM EPK), led by Handoko Riwidikdo, S.Kp. This session was designed to ensure the ethical review process is transparent and efficient. This was followed by a presentation on the protection of vulnerable subjects by Dr. Adji Suwandono, Sp.F., SH.

The two-day training was comprehensively concluded by the Head of KEP FK UNS, Dr. Nurhasan Agung Prabowo, Sp.PD., M.Kes. In this final session, Dr. Nurhasan presented crucial material on "Ethical Cases in Research with Human Subjects."

With the completion of this training, the KEP FK UNS is optimistic that they will have solid provisions, both in terms of system administration and scientific substance, to achieve the best results in the upcoming accreditation process.
