RGDC FK UNS Holds Community Service at SMP Negeri 15 Surakarta

The Disease Control Research Group (RGDC) of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) once again held a community service activity (abdimas) at SMP Negeri 15 Surakarta as a continuation of the previous year's program. This activity focused on the Implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement for the Empowerment Program for Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Schools which is in line with SDGs 3 (Sustainable Development Goal 3), "Healthy and Prosperous Life". SDGs 3 covers various aspects of health, one of which is combating infectious diseases. The purpose of this community service activity is to strengthen education regarding the control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) for students, teachers, and employees as well as to evaluate the impact of the program's success.

The event's chief executive, Dr. Arsita Eka Prasetyawati, dr., M.Kes., Sp.KKLP Subsp. FOMC, explained that the event involved more than 40 students, 40 teachers, and staffs in outreach, interactive discussions, and screening for NCDs. "Through this event, we want to ensure that our health education efforts become a sustainable program that has a significant impact. We hope that students and teachers can become agents of change in their communities and adopt a healthy lifestyle from an early age," Dr. Arsita explained.

The educational materials presented by the RGDC FK UNS community service team covered risk factors, prevention strategies, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle for various NCDs such as diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and anemia. In addition to the presentation, the event also included a question-and-answer session and educational practical training, such as how to measure blood pressure and calculate nutritional status based on height, weight, and waist circumference. The health screening was conducted through a comprehensive examination conducted through a school-based community health post (Posbindu), which included collecting medical history information, a physical examination, and basic laboratory tests (blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid). The event concluded with an assessment of students' knowledge of the educational material provided, as well as a focus group discussion with teachers and staff to evaluate the program's impact and success.

The principal of SMP Negeri 15 Surakarta, Heti Marheni, S.PAK, M.Pd., expressed her appreciation for the program's sustainability. "We are very grateful for the commitment of the RGDC FK UNS to continue this program. Continuous education like this is crucial for improving students' and teachers' understanding of how to prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs). We hope this collaboration can continue in the future," she said.
