RG Trimed and KKN Students Hold Community Service at SMPIT Nur Hidayah
As a community service program, the Research Group (RG) Nutrition, Metabolism and Medicine (Trimed) Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) together with three FK UNS Students of Community Service Program (KKN) Recognition held an education activity on the Nutritional Status of Adolescents from SMPIT Nur Hidayah, which took place at the Istiqlal Mosque, Sumber, Banjarsari, Surakarta on Wednesday (18/06/2025).
This activity was accompanied by supervising lecturers, Amelya Augusthina Ayu Sari, dr., M.Gizi.Sp.G.K and Amalina Shabrina, S.Gz., M.Sc. The three FK UNS KKN students who participated in this Community Service were Rifaldi Dwiva Nusantara Khoiri, Muhammad Arifian Karim Yamsun and Muhammad Faruq Afifuddin. This activity was also supported by the Junior Red Cross (PMR) Madya SMPIT Nur Hidayah Surakarta team.
This community service activity focuses on teenagers. Teenagers are an age group that is in a phase of rapid growth, both physically and psychologically. At this time, the need for balanced nutrition is very important to support their health, intelligence, and productivity. However, many teenagers still lack awareness and knowledge about the importance of a healthy diet, and tend to consume instant foods, high in sugar, and fat.

Through the strategic role of PMR as an agent of change in the school environment, nutritional education activities become an important means to improve adolescent nutritional literacy. Therefore, this activity aims to provide a basic understanding of nutritional status, measurement of Body Mass Index (BMI), Upper Arm Circumference (LILA), Ultra-Processed Food (UPF), and the concept of "Isi Piringku" (My Plate Contents) in the context of balanced nutrition.
Educational materials were delivered in an applicative manner by involving participants in practical sessions on measuring nutritional status, such as:
• BMI (Body Mass Index) to assess the proportion of body weight to height.
• LILA (Upper Arm Circumference) as an alternative indicator of nutritional status.
• UPF (Ultra-Processed Food) for body fat estimation.
• My Plate Contents as a visual guide to consuming nutritious food.
Participants were invited to directly take measurements using the anthropometric tools provided, accompanied by KKN FK UNS students. This educational and interactive approach received high enthusiasm from the students.
Through this activity, it is hoped that students, especially PMR members, can become role models in implementing a healthy lifestyle in the school environment. They not only gained knowledge about the importance of balanced nutrition, but also practical skills in measuring nutritional status.
