Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held the inauguration of 112 new students for the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) and Sub-Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDSS) for the second period of the 2024/2025 academic year. The inauguration of the new students was held at the FK UNS Auditorium on Monday (10/3/2025). These new students are the result of a series of UNS New Student Admissions Selection (SPMB) processes that have begun since November 2024.

The inauguration of the new PPDS and PPDSS students was attended by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr. M.Si .; Vice Rector for Academic and Research UNS, Prof. Dr. Fitria Rahmawati, S.Si., M.Si .; Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K); Vice Deans at FK UNS; Head of the UNS SPMB Office, Prof. Drs. Sutarno, M.Sc., Ph.D.; Director of the Academic Directorate of UNS, Dr.Agr. Ir. Sigit Prastowo, S.Pt., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng and the Heads of Study Programs (Kaprodi) of PPDS at FK UNS.

Prof. Fitria in her report said that the new students who were inaugurated today were students who had passed two stages of selection. A total of 378 students registered to carry out the selection stages which were carried out online and offline. A total of 94.71% of the total registrants passed and were entitled to take the second stage of the offline exam.

“The first stage of selection was carried out online with TPA (Academic Potential Test) and English Language Proficiency materials. Students uploaded BAPPENAS TPA certificates and TOEFL ITP/IELTS certificates through the UNS SPMB application. A total of 358 students passed the first stage and continued the second stage of the selection offline. The second stage of the selection exam included several tests such as a physical health test (MCU), psychological test, study program interview test, scientific field test, portfolio, interview test by university leaders, and interview test by the directors of the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) dr. Moewardi," Prof. Fitria explained.

Prof. Fitria reported that based on the results of the exams held since January 4, 2025, there were 112 prospective students who passed and became new PPDS and PPDSS students. The 112 prospective students consisted of 15 study programs with details of 10 students of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Study Program, 10 students of the Surgery Study Program, 6 students of the Psychiatry Study Program, 9 students of the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Study Program. Then 6 students of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Study Program, 6 students of the Ear, Nose, Throat-Head and Neck Study Program, 10 students of the Child Health Study Program, 11 students of the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Therapy Study Program. Then 11 students of Internal Medicine, 6 students of the Dermatology and Venereology Study Program, 6 students of the Neurology Study Program, 6 students of the Clinical Pathology Study Program, 6 students of the Heart and Blood Vessel Study Program, 6 students of the Radiology Study Program, and 3 students of the Internal Medicine Subspecialist.

Prof. Hartono on this occasion conveyed the increasing number of PPDS and PPDSS enthusiasts at FK UNS. The number of PPDS and PPDSS applicants at FK UNS has increased significantly from year to year. In this academic year, the number of applicants for the Psychiatry Study Program itself reached 48 out of the 6 quotas provided. This shows that the number of enthusiasts for the Psychiatry Study Program has increased and the competition is tight. This is also due to the factor that almost all Specialist Doctor Education Study Programs are accredited as superior. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) 2025, UNS is ranked 2nd in Indonesia.

"That's why you should be proud of this alma mater. Because many of your friends who also want to enter PPDS and PPDSS have not been accepted like all of you who are present here. In the past, when I was a doctor, the term was 'as I wish' and I continued to study overnight, when I was in PPDS and PPDSS, this needs to be improved even more. Likewise, integrity, ethics, and professionalism are also required to be a concern," Prof. Hartono said.

This activity places UNS as a State University with Legal Entity (PTNBH) that supports the achievement of the fourth Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Quality Education, especially in the medical world.
