RGDC FK UNS Holds Community Service at SMPN 15 Surakarta
The Research Group of Disease Control (RGDC) of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held a community service activity at State Junior High School (SMP) 15 Surakarta on Friday (18/10/2024). This activity aimed to provide education on controlling non-communicable diseases to teachers and students.
In this one-day activity, the RGDC Team held a socialization and interactive discussion involving more than 40 students and 40 teachers. The material presented included risk factors, prevention, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle to avoid diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and several other non-communicable diseases.
The coordinator of the community service activity, Widana Primaningtyas, dr., M.K.M., said that this education is very important considering the increasing number of non-communicable disease sufferers in Indonesia, especially among young people. "We hope that this socialization can increase awareness among students and teachers of the importance of maintaining health through a better lifestyle from an early age," she said.

In addition to the presentation of the material, this activity also involved a question and answer session and educational practice training for students, such as measuring blood pressure, height, weight and waist circumference correctly so that they better understand non-communicable diseases.
The RGDC Team also conducted non-communicable disease screening for teachers and staff of SMP Negeri 15 Surakarta. At the end of the event, the RGDC Team distributed several health screening tools to the school to support the ongoing campaign in controlling non-communicable diseases.
The Principal of SMP Negeri 15 Surakarta, Heti Marheni, welcomed this activity. "Socialization activities like this are very useful, especially in providing knowledge to students about how to prevent non-communicable diseases. We hope that activities like this can continue," she said.
Through this RGDC activity, it is hoped that it can provide a real contribution to improving public health, especially among students, as well as encouraging awareness of the importance of early prevention of non-communicable diseases.
