In order to support the efforts of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) to become a "World Class University", the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNS held a workshop entitled "Expanding International Research and Publication: Academic Perspective" on Friday, October 11, 2024. This event aimed to improve the ability of academics to collaborate on research and publication at the international level.

This workshop was attended by representatives of the FK UNS Research Group, lecturers, Masters and Doctoral students from various universities in Indonesia, both online and offline. The expert lecturers in this activity were Prof. Bachti Alisjahbana, dr., Sp.PD-KPTI, Ph.D from Universitas Padjajaran and Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur, dr., M.Kes., Sp.PD-KGEH., Ph.D., FINASIM from Universitas Airlangga.

Vice Dean for Academic and Research of FK UNS, Dr. Eti Poncorini Pamungkasari, dr., M.Pd greatly appreciated this activity because the participants could gain new insights directly from the two speakers.

"We really appreciate this activity, which will certainly provide participants with a lot of new knowledge, new insights about research and collaboration with foreign countries. The two speakers who are present today are experts in their fields so I hope that the participants can focus and absorb all the materials provided," she said.

In this activity, the two speakers emphasized the management of research groups and research communities. However, in more detail in the first session, Prof. Bachti presented material on "Integrating Clinical Practice and Research: Strategies to Get International Grants". He provided insight into how to integrate clinical practice with research, as well as strategies for obtaining international funding.

"Try as a researcher to always show a good track record when you collaborate with foreign parties," he said.

In the second session, Prof. Miftahussurur delivered a material entitled "Expanding Collaboration: Strategies to Publish in International Journal". This session discussed the importance of collaboration between researchers. Especially to be able to collaborate with institutions abroad because of course it can increase experience and capacity.

"There are many benefits that we can get when we collaborate with foreign institutions, besides being able to increase your experience, it will also definitely develop your potential as a researcher," he mentioned.

The event ended with a question and answer session and an interactive discussion between participants and speakers, which further enriched the participants' knowledge in terms of international research and publication.

It is hoped that through this activity, Indonesian academics can play an increasingly active role in the world of global research and be able to produce high-quality publications in international journals. In addition, this workshop is also expected to open up opportunities for wider research collaboration between institutions in Indonesia and abroad.
