Two Undergraduate Midwifery Students from the UNS Medical Faculty Won 1st Place in the 2024 Health Competition of Midwefery Generation (HCG)

Students of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) have again made an achievement after winning 1st place in the essay category at the 2024 Health Competition of Midwifery Generation (HCG) held by the Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health, Surabaya on October 3-5, 2024.

Yesika Cahya Septiana and Nanda Shevira won the championship in the competition. Both are 5th semester students of the Undergraduate Program in Midwifery, FK UNS. They wrote an essay with a sub-theme about anxiety in pregnant women.

"The title of our essay is JOURNEY: Therapy Non Pharmacologist to reduce anxiety during pregnancy. So we have an innovation called Journey which is an abbreviation of Journal Therapy to Reduce Antenatal Anxiety," Yesika said.

It was further explained that the method of this innovation is to write notes in a diary containing emotions or feelings experienced by pregnant women every day. It is hoped that by writing down the feelings they experience, it can reduce the anxiety felt by pregnant women.

"This technique is called expressive writing," Yesika mentioned.

According to Nanda, what differentiates their essays from those of other competitors is the application of existing innovations.

“If the essays of other participants are only limited to ideas, innovations. Whereas yesterday we highlighted the innovation. So not only the idea but we also made it like a product, a prototype. This is what yesterday might have convinced the jury because yesterday we had a little testing on respondents,” Nanda explained.

In the midst of their busy schedules in studying, it turns out that they both do not feel like they lack time to prepare themselves for this competition. "Preparation for this competition is actually very flexible, we prepare ourselves outside of class hours, for example after class, there is also a division of tasks," Nanda said.

This was confirmed by Yesika, because according to her, as a team, the division of tasks must be done and can be carried out well. In facing this competition, they both received guidance from one of the lecturers of the Midwifery Study Program, FK UNS.

"Yes, we were guided by Mrs. Novi as our supervisor," Yesika said.

Their message for students who want to join the essay competition is to keep training themselves by looking at various existing references and not be afraid to try to explore their potential for new things.
