Reproductive Education and Early Detection of Breast Cancer in SMPN 1 Surakarta with the PKM HGR-HKINES FK UNS Team
Lack of knowledge among teenagers about puberty and reproductive health has resulted in many cases of sexual harassment which leads to early pregnancy in teenagers. On this basis, the Human Kinesiology Research Group Grant Community Service Team (PKM HGR-HKINES) Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held Reproductive Education and Early Detection of Breast Cancer activities for Junior High School (SMP) students. Surakarta on Friday (17/5/2024).
Head of the HGR-HKINES PKM Team, Dr. Dhoni Akbar Ghozali, dr., M.Kes said that it is important for teenagers to know and understand reproductive health.
"By providing education to teenagers about puberty and good reproductive health, it is hoped that we can prevent and reduce the rate of sexual harassment and early pregnancy among teenagers," he said.
One of the reproductive health aspects raised in this program is breast health which is carried out by socializing early detection of breast cancer using the Awareness method.
The activity began with providing education regarding Reproductive Education by Dr. Desy Kurniawati Tandiyo, dr., Sp. KFR. and Examine Your Own Breasts (Aware) by Dr. Inge Pramaratu, Sp.An. The reproductive education material included puberty, reproductive organ health, and education on preventing sexual harassment.

Apart from that, female students also received education about breast cancer and assistance and training regarding carrying out breast self-examination (Sadari). In carrying out this activity, the HGR-HKINES PKM Team was assisted by students from the Faculty of Medicine.
The socialization activities took place actively, interspersed with questions and answers as a forum for discussion between female students and doctors directly related to the material presented. The aim of this discussion is for students to be able to tell stories and express their curiosity about the topics that have been presented.
Apart from that, pretest-posttest activities were also held before and after giving the material. After this training and mentoring activity, it is hoped that female students and teachers will increase their knowledge regarding puberty and reproductive health so as to avoid sexual harassment and early pregnancy.
This activity was welcomed by the Deputy Principal for Student Affairs at SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta, Ika Kartika Sari, S.E. "Thank you to the team from FK UNS for organizing this excellent activity, we hope that this activity can increase the knowledge of female students, especially regarding reproductive education, prevention of sexual harassment, and reproductive health, which can later be disseminated to people closest to them so that increase the knowledge of all levels of society," he said.
