Prof. Dr. Trisulo Wasyanto, dr., SpJP(K), FIHA, FAPSC, FAsCC Becomes the 49th Professor of FK UNS

The Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) has again added one new professor. The addition of this professor after the inauguration of Prof. Dr. Trisulo Wasyanto, dr., SpJP(K), FIHA, FAPSC, FAsCC who became a professor at the Faculty of Medicine in the field of Heart and Blood Vessel Sciences, Intensive Care and Cardiovascular Emergencies on Tuesday, (16/01/2024) at the G.P.H Haryo Mataram UNS Auditorium Building.

Prof. Trisulo is the 49th professor at the UNS Faculty of Medicine and the 300th professor at UNS. In his inauguration speech, he took the title 'The Role of Novel Biomarkers in the Diagnostics and Prognostics of Sudden Heart Attack'.

According to Prof. Trisulo, coronary heart disease is the number one cause of death in the world, including in Indonesia.

"I carried out this research to diagnose the symptoms of heart disease so that they can be treated more quickly, therefore I developed a new biomarker as a marker. Even though there are many existing biomarkers, my research uses new biomarkers," Prof. Trisulo explained.

According to him, a biomarker is a marker of how we can recognize coronary heart disease so that patients receive treatment immediately and do not die.

“These deaths usually occur because the patient is taken to the hospital too late. "This heart disease occurs because the blood flow that feeds the heart muscle is blocked by plaque caused by risk factors such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high uric acid, diabetes and so on, causing plaque," he said.

He continued, "The therapy for these symptoms is repercussion, carried out by placing a ring. At UNS Hospital, we have 3 tools for cardiac catheterization. Within 2 hours after the patient arrives, this process must be carried out to save the patient's heart muscle."

Prof. Trisulo said that time is muscle, time is muscle. The sooner it is treated, the greater the chance that the patient will be saved, conversely, the slower it is treated, the more the heart muscle will weaken and die.

Holding the highest functional academic position, namely Professor, has the consequence that a Professor is at least bound by a contractual obligation to implement the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, write books, scientific publications in international journals, and disseminate ideas. If this cannot be fulfilled, the Professor's position will be revoked.

"Therefore, it is not wrong if we as higher education leaders ask professors to be ready to guarantee their dedication to productive work, and always make their best contribution to the development of science, arts and technology," Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum said.

Prof. Jamal also hoped that the professors at UNS will continue to increase the productivity of publications, journals, research and service so that the degrees they have received can be useful and not just an addition to a name.
