The Doctoral Study Program in Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held an Expert Lecture on Writing Scientific Articles and Publicating Reputable International Journals on Monday (27/11/2023) at the FK UNS Auditorium.

This activity, which was held for 2 days, presented speakers from the Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo, Semarang, namely Dr. Dr. Cipta Pramana, Sp.OG., Subsp. Obgynsos who has had dozens of articles published in reputable international journals.

Head of the FK UNS Doctoral Medical Sciences Study Program, Prof. Dr. Soetrisno, dr., Sp.OG(K) in his speech expressed his hope that this activity could help participants to better understand how to publish effectively and correctly.

"Hopefully our activity can give you all an understanding of how to publish properly. This is very important because in accordance with the requirements in our study program to take the final exam and be able to graduate, the dissertation research is published in a reputable international journal," Prof. Soetrisno said.

In his presentation of the material, Dr. Cipta said that a writer must understand why they need to publish their writing in a reputable international journal.

"By publishing in international journals, we will be motivated to write which will ultimately bring benefits to us. For example, we can develop knowledge. When we have something about science, one way to share the knowledge we know is by writing," Dr. Cipta said.

Apart from that, according to him, writing will also increase the body of knowledge and disseminate research results.

"Like all of you, when you are studying for a PhD, you will have to be able to disseminate the results of your research, one way is by writing and publishing them," he explained.

Furthermore, the publication of an article in a reputable international journal will be an achievement and reputation as a writer.

“Writing also increases a nation's competitiveness. So, a country is said to be advanced in its higher education, one of the assessments is the number of publications. "The highest scoring is publications, so whether you like it or not, as an academic you have to write and publish as much as possible to increase your university ranking," he explained.

In choosing international journals, Dr. Cipta suggested that participants diligently look at international journals and pay attention to how many times the journal publishes articles each year and how many articles are published each time. Apart from that, you also need to pay attention to how quickly a journal responds to articles that have been submitted.

It is hoped that holding this expert lecture activity can improve students' specialization competencies according to developments in medical science so as to improve the quality of future Doctoral graduates.
