Physiology Laboratory of FK UNS Holds Exercise Physiology Expert Lecture
As an effort to optimize learning in the Physiology Laboratory especially exercise physiology, in order to improve the quality of graduates, academic collaboration and research, the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) through the Physiology Laboratory held a Physiology Expert Lecture with the theme Exercise Physiology on Wednesday (8/ 11/2023) at the FK UNS Auditorium.
This Expert Lecture activity, which was attended by around 120 students, was the first to be held by the FK UNS Physiology Laboratory. Presenting 3 speakers, Prof. Dr. Bambang Purwanto, dr., M.Kes from the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University; Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si as Professor of FK UNS in the field of Physiology and Dr. Sinu Andhi Jusup, dr., M.Kes., AIFM Head of Physiology Laboratory FK UNS.
Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K), when opening the Physiology Expert Lecture, conveyed about learning modes in medical faculties and the importance of a doctor understanding physiology.

"For learning at FK UNS we will provide various learning modes, such as tutorials, skills lab lectures, field labs and so on and later in the profession the learning modes will be even more complex. Like now, the elective block learning mode is a block where the lecturer can be from outside UNS and it is included in the assessment. "This is an important lecture about exercise physiology where doctors must understand physiology and this time it is specifically about exercise so later they have to be serious about following it," Prof. Reviono said.
One of the speakers in this activity, Prof. Dr. Bambang Purwanto, dr., M.Kes, when delivering his material, stated that skeletal muscle is one of the extraordinary organs in the human body.
“Studying physiology is the same as studying our bodies. "One of the organs that God has entrusted to us in the greatest number, with the largest area, is skeletal muscle," he explained.
He criticized the lack of attention from doctors towards musculoskeletal health.
“However, I want to give a little hint to the doctors, there is very little awareness of paying attention to musculoskeletal health. "The proof is that when a patient comes for a medical check-up, the organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys and liver are always examined, but there is no skeletal muscle examination," he said.
According to him, many diseases can arise due to poor condition of the skeletal muscles.
"This is a big task for us to pay more attention to the health of skeletal muscles, because increasingly disorders of skeletal muscles result in or are related to diseases that are currently happening, such as diabetes, bone fractures, dislocations and so on," he explained.

By holding this guest lecture, it is hoped that students will broaden their horizons and find out about the latest developments in sports medicine as well as find out opportunities for career development in sports medicine. Apart from that, this activity is expected to optimize the integration of learning about respiratory and reproductive cardiovascular physiology with exercise physiology from practitioners who have implemented the health benefits of exercise.
