Three Research Groups from the Faculty of Psychology and the Faculty of Medicine UNS, Develop Early Marriage Prevention Strategies
The reduction in the rate of early marriage (child marriage) in Indonesia by 17.54% in 2022 needs to be supported and realized again through increasing wider community participation. Not only Indonesia, the problem of child marriage also occurs in Cambodia. Responding to the problem of early marriage in these two countries, through the International Community Partnership Program (PKMI) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) 2023, Research Group (RG) Indigenous Psychology, Faculty of Psychology (Chair: Dr. Tri Rejeki Andayani, S.Psi., M. Si.), RG Nutrition and Health (Chair: Dr. Budiyanti Wiboworini, dr., M.Kes., Sp.GK.), and RG Complementary Alternative and Nursing (Chair: Dr. Sri Mulyani, S.Kep.Ns. , M.Kes.) from the Faculty of Medicine UNS, and Dr. Nisa Rachmah Nur Anganthi, M.Sc., Psychologist from the Faculty of Psychology, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS), partnered with Alima Indonesia and the Musa Asiah Foundation (YASMA) Cambodia to develop a strategy to prevent early marriage among teenagers.
The Musa Asiah Foundation or YASMA is a foundation in Cambodia which is active in formal and informal education and is led by Prof. Mohammad Zain Musa, Ph.D. Meanwhile, Alima is an Alima Human Education Foundation led by Ustadz Abdul Hamid, Al Hafidz, which has the same vision as YASMA, but still needs assistance to carry out its mission in supporting the prevention of early child marriage in Indonesia.

To formulate a strategy to reduce the number of child marriage problems, the PKMI Team held a One Day Hybrid Workshop on 19 August 2023 at the UNS Tower by inviting four speakers. The first material about the Planning Generation Program (GENRE) and its Learning Module, as an effort to prevent early marriage, was delivered by Purwanti, S.K.M., M.Kes., as Head of the Surakarta City Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, and Population Control and Family Planning (DP3A2P2KB) Service. Then the second was by Mufti Addin, S.Pd., SH., as Functional Islamic Religious Counselor (PAIF) of the Surakarta City Ministry of Religion Office who delivered material about the School Age Youth Guidance Program (BRUS) and its Learning Module, as an effort to prevent early marriage. The third resource person, Prof. Mohamad Zain Musa, Ph.D., as President of YASMA Cambodia with material on Management and Contribution of Non-formal Education Programs to Prevent Child Marriage. Next, Ustadz Abdul Hamid, Al Hafidz., as Chairman of the ALIMA Indonesia Insan Foundation, conveyed the foundation's vision and mission and plans for the development of the Alima Premarital School as an effort to prepare a generation ready for marriage at the right time. After receiving briefings from the resource persons, approximately 30 participants were divided into three groups to work together to develop a module for preventing early child marriage.

"The results of this activity will be followed up with validation of the module by experts, and application of the module to the target group, namely students at the Insan Alima Foundation in Saturday Night sessions which are routinely held informally by Alima," Dr. Tri Rejeki Andayani, S.Psi., M.Sc., as Chair of the PKMI UNS Team explained.
She also hoped that through this series of activities it is hoped that he can make a real contribution to efforts to prevent early child marriage in Indonesia, starting from the Surakarta area, Central Java.
