Department of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine Collaborates with PERKI Surakarta to Commemorate World Heart Day 2023


 

In celebration of World Heart Day which is celebrated every September, the Department of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine, Faculty of Medicine (FK) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in collaboration with the Association of Indonesian Cardiovascular Specialist Doctors (PERKI) Surakarta Branch held World Heart Day 2023 activities on Sunday (9/24/2023).

This activity, which took place at the Medical Sports Center FK UNS, was also attended by members of the Healthy Heart Club from the Indonesian Heart Foundation, Surakarta Branch. The activities were filled with various events such as a healthy walk together, a talk show about heart health, a demonstration of feeling your own pulse (dancing) and a presentation and practice of basic life support (BHD).

Chairman of PERKI Surakarta Branch, dr. Heru Sulastomo, Sp.J.P(K), FIHA, FAPSC, FAsCC in his speech said that this activity is an activity that is routinely carried out every year.

"This event was held simultaneously from the center to the regions to carry out activities with the theme of a healthy heart. "There are many activities that we will do this morning, starting from health walking, counseling and then we will practice BHD," said Dr. Heru Sulastomo.

On this occasion it was also explained by Dr. Irnizarifka, SpJP, SupSp. Ar. (K), FIHA, FAPSC, FAsCC, FHFA about how to feel your own pulse and count heartbeats per minute so you can know whether your heartbeat is normal or not.

"If the calculation above is found to be lower than 60 bpm or more than 100 bpm then it is possible there is a heart problem, immediately go to a cardiologist to be examined with an EKG," explained Dr. Irnizarifka.

According to him, heart examination is important because it can prevent unwanted things such as stroke. It was further explained that fainting could also be a sign of instability in the heart rate.

"There are 2 causes of fainting, one is fainting due to a heart defect and the second is fainting due to something other than a heart defect. To find out the cause of the fainting, immediately go to a heart doctor for further examination. If fainting is caused by a heart defect, this is very dangerous, the risk is very high," he concluded.
