FK UNS Develops International Network with NCKU Taiwan


 

To support Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) as a World Class University (WCU), Faculty of Medicine (FK) is developing an international network with the College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Taiwan in the fields of education and research. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNS and NCKU was carried out by Prof. Dr. Reviono, Dr. SpP(K) as Dean of FK UNS and Professor Yan-Shen Shan, MD, Ph.D as Dean of NCKU College of Medicine on Wednesday (13/09/2023) in Tainan, Taiwan.

Currently, National Cheng Kung University is a leading university in Taiwan which is ranked 224th in the QS World University Ranking and ranked 36th in the Asian University Ranking. UNS collaborates in the medical field with the consideration that NCKU has advantages in the field of medical research, both basic research and clinical research. NCKU also has a fairly large teaching hospital with 1200 beds supported by many medical personnel who are experts in their fields. Apart from that, NCKU also has a fairly extensive international student exchange program.

"At this time the MoU has been signed by both parties, it is hoped that soon, around November, the PPDS Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine FK UNS education phase will begin at NCKU Hospital. Apart from the specialist doctor program, there is also a plan for the Biomedical Masters study program to collaborate with the College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University," Prof. Reviono, Dean of FK UNS, explained.

In signing the MoU, the two universities agreed on various institutional cooperative activities:

1) Student Exchange
Faculty of Medicine UNS will send undergraduate and postgraduate students to take part in research training in departments at the NCKU College of Medicine.

2) Join Research
For undergraduate or postgraduate students, the Faculty of Medicine UNS will carry out research projects under the guidance of UNS lecturers. UNS students will work on part of their project in the Department of the Faculty of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University for 1-3 months.

3) Invite Professors from NCKU
Faculty of Medicine UNS will invite professors in departments at the National Cheng Kung University Faculty of Medicine to give lectures on basic or clinical medical courses.

4) Visiting Professor from UNS
Faculty of Medicine UNS will send professors to departments at the NCKU Faculty of Medicine to give lectures on basic or clinical medical courses. UNS Professors will collaborate with NCKU Professors to apply for international research grants.

5) Masters or PhD program
Faculty of Medicine UNS will select several candidates to take the Masters or PhD program at the NCKU College of Medicine. For selected candidates, NCKU will offer scholarships that cover tuition fees, living expenses, and laboratory research.

6) Specialist Medical Training at NCKU
Faculty of Medicine UNS will send several doctors who are undergoing specialist programs to take part in medical research/training at NCKU Hospital. Research training relates to current research activities and clinical skills at NCKU hospitals.

Setelah penandatangan MoU, Prof. Chang-Wen Chen, MD, Ph.D dari Division of Chest Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine mengajak tim dari FK UNS untuk berkeliling melihat fasilitas baik terapi maupun diagnostic khususnya di bidang respirasi di NCKU Hospital. Selain di bidang respirasi, diperlihatkan juga fasilitas laboratorium di bidang Biomedik. Pada kesempatan tersebut Prof. Chien-Sheng Chen, Ph.D, dari High Throughput Biosensing Laboratory bersama Prof. Hsiu-Ling Chen dari Food Safety/Hygiene and Risk Management menjelaskan secara rinci fasilitas laboratorium, jenis pemeriksaan serta project yang saat ini dikerjakan.

Prof. Jhy-Wei Shin, Ph.D dari Department of Parasitology, Head Center for Continuing Education yang mengembangkan sistem pembelajaran kedokteran di NCKU juga memberikan penjelasan mengenai pembelajaran digital. Selanjutnya, Tim dari FK UNS juga mendapat penjelasan teknologi nano yang sedang dikembangkan untuk kasus malignansi dan metabolic oleh Prof. Wen-Ping Su, Ph.D, Director, Institute of Clinical Medicine.
