FK UNS Thematic KKN Team in Mojo Village Holds Outreach on Stunting Prevention and Provision of MPASI According to Age

Students of the Bachelor of Medicine Study Program, Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) class of 2020 are currently undergoing the Thematic Community Service Program (KKN) 'Building Villages' in Boyolali, Karanganyar, Sragen and Wonogiri Regencies. One of the KKN groups, namely Team 225 located in Mojo Village, Andong District, Boyolali Regency, held a Socialization on Stunting Prevention and Procedures for Providing Age-appropriate Complementary Food for Breast Milk (MPASI) on Thursday (20/07/2023) and Friday (21/07/2023) at the Mojo Village Hall.

The first activity held on Thursday was intended for 11 pregnant women in all Neighbourhood Units (RT) in Mojo Village. The second activity on Friday was intended for health cadres, totalling 22 people as representatives from all RTs in Mojo Village. The activity began with opening and remarks by the Head of Mojo Village, Bagus Muhammad Muhcsin and continued with directions from Soniatuunnikmah, Amd.Keb, as the Mojo Village Midwife. The Village Head hopes that the villagers and the KKN FK UNS 225 team can help each other and greet each other so that they become more friendly.

"Hopefully the program held by Team 225 can help Mojo Village in reducing the incidence of stunting, and can become additional knowledge for villagers," said the Head of Mojo Village.

The series of activities on the first day is education about the importance of preventing stunting since the baby is in the womb. Apart from that, Team 225 also provided education on the benefits of periodic pregnancy checks to prevent hypertension and anemia for pregnant women, as well as the contents of my plate as an effort to meet the nutritional needs of pregnant women to prevent the birth of stunted babies in Mojo Village. The education was delivered by KKN FK UNS students Hafidz Nidhar Yahya, Athena Aprilisa, Gita Sari Pitaloka, and Syafani Nuriadita. Submission of socialization through print media in the form of posters and flipcharts/leaflets in easy-to-understand language and added various pictures in it to make it easier for pregnant women to understand the material presented. The activity closed with a photo session with pregnant women.

The series of events on the second day were counselling on preventing and pursuing the growth of stunted toddlers through the provision of age-appropriate MPASI aimed at Mojo Village health cadres. This counselling was carried out with the hope that the cadres would be able to pass on information about this to Mojo Village residents as a whole, so as to increase residents' awareness of stunting and the importance of age-appropriate complementary foods. The second day of the event ended with a photo session with the women cadres.

According to data for 2023, Mojo Village has a fairly high stunting rate. By holding stunting prevention educational activities and procedures for age-appropriate complementary feeding, we can increase knowledge and increase citizen awareness in reducing the incidence of stunting. The posters and flipcharts/leaflets provided can also be used as material guides for residents. In the future, it is hoped that efforts to prevent stunting from an early age can be implemented by all residents, especially pregnant women who will give birth to children as the next generation of Mojo villages and Indonesia.
