RGDC FK UNS Organizes Youth Ambassador Project for Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases for Youths and Families
The Disease Control Research Group (RGDC) of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held the Youth Ambassador Project at State Junior High School (SMPN) 5 Surakarta on Thursday (20/07/2023). The Youth Ambassador Project is a School Healthy Ambassador for the prevention of Non Communicable Disease (NCD) for youth and families, with a main focus on the prevention and management of PTM in students at SMPN 5 Surakarta.
This project was aimed to identify factors related to teacher health, nutrition status, and productivity, develop screening and intervention models, and formulate policy-oriented innovation strategies for teacher health, nutritional status, and productivity issues in SMP Negeri 5 Surakarta in Indonesia. The series of activities began with an introduction to the project to teachers via the WhatsApp group, followed by the first meeting to socialize and educate students about PTM. The event started at 09.00 WIB in the morning starting with remarks by the head of the research, Vitri Widyaningsih, dr., M.S., Ph.D.
"I hope that these young people and prospective teenagers know the types of PTM, early detection of PTM and how to control PTM," dr. Vitri said.
After the remarks, the event continued with presentation of material related to non-communicable diseases and discussions with RGDC FK UNS assistant, dr.Agni Shalha. Prior to the presentation of the material, questionnaires related to knowledge, attitudes and healthy living behaviors related to PTM were distributed through one door, namely through teacher representatives.
The questionnaire can be accessed through the Google Form and the output of the situation analysis is in the form of baseline data which will be compared with the PTM screening measurement data and post-intervention data. The interventions that will be carried out are in the form of independent PTM screening training by student cadres and education on the prevention and management of PTM. The activity was closed by distributing door prizes and group photos.
