Midwife Professional Education and Undergraduate Study Program of FK UNS Holds Preceptor Mentor Training for Lecturers and Clinical Instructors

One of the learning activities undertaken by a midwifery student is clinical practice at a health care facility. In this activity students are accompanied by an experienced Clinical Instructor (CI). Apart from acting as a companion for students in carrying out their clinical practice, a CI is also required to be able to provide effective clinical learning, including developing clinical skills, knowledge, attitudes and professional ethics.

It is on this basis that the Undergraduate Study Program and Professional Midwifery Education Program, Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held a Preceptor Mentor Training activity which began on 6 July 2023 to 8 July 2023. Located in the Auditorium of the UNS Faculty of Medicine, this activity was aimed to improve the competence of lecturers and CIs in carrying out their roles as acceptors and mentors for midwifery students while undergoing clinical practice in hospitals or other health facilities.

The resource person for this activity was a Medical and Health Profession Education Expert: dr. Yoyo Suhoyo, M.Med.Ed., Ph.D (Universitas Gadjah Mada) and Dr. Veronika Ika Budiastuti, dr., M.Pd (UNS) who delivered material on choosing the right method in mentoring and assessment, application of technology and ethical issues in mentoring and assessment in clinical education.

In addition to these two speakers, this activity also presented a Team of Preceptor Mentors from Poltekkes Semarang (Dr. Runjati, M. Mid; Dr. Sri Rahayu, S.Kep.Ns. STr.Keb, M. Kes; Dr. Sri Sumarni, M. Mid; Elisa Ulfiana, SST., M.Kes.; Ida Aryanti, SST., M.Kes.; Rizki Amelia, SST., M.Kes) and Poltekkes Denpasar (Dr. Sri Rahayu, SKp, Ns, STr.Keb, M.Kes) . This team delivered material on the concept of clinical guidance based on the IQF level, issues of clinical learning, strategies or principles of clinical learning and clinical teaching models.

According to the Head of the Activity Committee, Dr. Grhasta Dian Perestroika, S.ST., M.Kes, it is very important for lecturers and CI to participate in this training so that they can align their understanding of the functions and responsibilities of clinical supervisors.

“This Preceptor Mentor Training activity aims to improve the quality of guidance in midwifery practice. This training is designed to strengthen the skills and knowledge of preceptors in providing effective guidance to students," Dr. Grhasta said.

It was hoped that from this activity better and more useful guidance will be realized for students, increasing the quality of students' practical experience, as well as a deep understanding of the roles and responsibilities as preceptors.
