The Anatomy Laboratory of FK UNS Successfully Developed an Application for Learning Anatomy of the Human Body Using Virtual Reality
The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sebelas Maret (FK UNS) continues to strive to develop itself in an effort to provide the best for its students, continue to complete and update facilities and infrastructure and innovate in the field of technology as an effort to improve the quality of learning.
One of the quality improvements in FK UNS was done by the Anatomy Laboratory of FK UNS, after successfully innovating with deARnatomy which is an Augmented Reality-based three-dimensional (3D) anatomy learning application that can be used by medical students, PPDS, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, physiotherapy, sports, psychology and also the general public in need. The Anatomy Laboratory of FK UNS developed the Anatomart application, which is an application for learning anatomy of the human body using Virtual Reality (VR). This application makes it easy for users to learn in the early stages of introducing the anatomy of the human body.
Although at first glance the two applications looked same, but the deARnatomy and Anatomart applications are different, as stated by the Head of the UNS Medical Faculty Anatomy Laboratory, Nanang Wiyono, dr., M.Kes during the Anatomart application introduction activity in Meeting Room 2 of the Medical Education Building, Tuesday ( 12/7/2022).
"So, if we enter Virtual Reality (Anatomart) there, we feel a sensation like in an anatomy laboratory room, even apart from feeling like we are in a room, we can also hold the objects in it. Augmented Reality (deARnatomy) is a three-dimensional image displayed in the real world, not virtual space" dr. Nanang explained.
For the Anatomart application, students can explore the virtual space in it and then study various anatomical organs virtually. Students can hold these organs, see them thoroughly and get information about the organs they are holding. Besides that, Anatomart also provides quizzes containing questions to train students' knowledge about the anatomy of the human body.
In this introduction to the Anatomart application, 3 sets of Virtual Reality tools were provided that can be used by students and lecturers to try out the Anatomart application directly. UNS Faculty of Medicine Lecturer, Jarot Subandono, dr., M.Kes after trying out this application expressed his admiration for the application which he felt would make it easier for students and lecturers to go through the teaching and learning process.
"In my opinion, it's amazing, interesting, motivating only from me because this is my first experience using this (controller tool), you know, so it's not familiar, not proficient, but it will be very good if used in practicum because it will motivate students because it's real but in the world. virtual so that it will attract students' interest,” dr. Jarot said.
This Anatomart application was a collaboration project between the UNS Medical Faculty and the UNS Vocational School where the Anatomy Laboratory as the content provider and the Vocational School as the application maker. With applications such as Anatomart, it is hoped that the learning process or practicum can be better. The deARnatomy application is already available on the Playstore and can be downloaded for widespread use.
