46 Dancers of Gladhi Beksan Faculty of Medicine (GBFK) Enliven the Medical Fiesta FK UNS 2022


 

The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sebelas Maret (FK UNS) apart from being an educational institution that continues to develop itself in the academic field to become a medical and health education institution of international repute, it also develops itself in the non-academic field. Various sports and art activities are given a wide space to continue to grow and are not only limited to students but also by lecturers and education staff within the Faculty of Medicine UNS.

One of the art groups in FK UNS is Gladhi Beksan, Faculty of Medicine (GBFK). This art group that has existed since 2017 consists of academics in the UNS Medical Faculty who are interested in Javanese traditional dance. This is in accordance with the vision of GBFK, which is to provide a forum for developing interests and talents in traditional dance in supporting the preservation of the noble Javanese culture.

Various dance performances have been staged by GBFK on various occasions, not only within the faculty but also in various other university level events. GBFK has also performed outside UNS several times, one of which is when presenting a ballet performance entitled ‘Shinta Ilang-Rahwana Searching for Love’ at Balekambang Park, Surakarta. According to one member of the GBFK, Dr. Eti Poncorini Pamungkasari, dr., M.Pd, at first GBFK only consisted of members of the academic community of the Faculty of Medicine, but over time the members of GBFK also increased from outside the Faculty of Medicine and also from the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) UNS.

"So, the members are from all UNS, some from the head office, some from the library, some from other faculties and Dharma Wanita women are also there," dr. Eti Poncorini said.

One of GBFK's latest performances was when they performed the Gambyong Ayun-Ayun dance at the opening of the Medical Fiesta 2022 event on Thursday (26/5/2022) in front of the UNS Medical Faculty Medical Education building. A total of 46 dancers performed together wearing a red kebaya and a white scarf, looking elegant and performing a dance accompanied by the strains of gamelan.

Seen in the group of dancers, Mrs. Budhi Wijajanti Jamal Wiwoho, Chair of the UNS DWP who is also the wife of UNS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum, then there is also Mrs. Nining Himawati Reviono, S.E the wife of the Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K) who seems fluent in dancing to the accompanying gamelan strains.

The chairman of GBFK, Maryani, dr., M.Si., Sp.MK in the discussion before the performance explained about the meaning of the Gambyong Ayun-Ayun dance which will be staged.

“Actually, there are many gambyong, but for the swing, it describes the joy of a mature adult, so that later the movements will be soft, smooth and agile. Describing a capable Javanese woman, invited to alus come on, invited to grobyakan gelem," dr. Maryani explained.

Secretary of GBFK, R. Prihandjojo Andri Putranto, dr., M.Si, invited the younger generation to protect regional arts in Indonesia.

"I hope there will be more young people, millennials, who appreciate our culture because it is ours, and if we don't take care of it, then who else?" dr. Andri said.

With the existence of GBFK, it is hoped that it can become a forum for channelling and developing the talent interests of the UNS academic community in regional arts as well as an effort to support the preservation of regional arts and culture as a source of national culture.
