The National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KN-MIPA) is a national level competition held by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. The competition, which has existed since 2009, competes in four fields, namely Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

In this year's competition, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students won 2 bronze medals through Daniel Sugihantoro from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) and Achmad Nurul Yaqin from the Faculty of Medicine (FK). The competition which went through three stages of selection including university level selection, regional level selection and national level selection was attended by around 3800 participants.

Achmad Nurul Yaqin, a bronze medallist in Chemistry from the Faculty of Medicine, UNS, did not even think that he could still win a bronze medal in Chemistry in this competition.

“This year's selection, honestly, is more difficult than last year, so why is it really like this, because the competitors have changed, not like last year. People are cool. Can you still do it, moreover, this is a cross field, cross department. Then it turns out that I still got the bronze medal, MasyaAllah, I am very happy, "explained Yaqin on Wednesday (15/09/2021).

Last year's silver medallist in the same competition said that in the future he would prefer to regenerate and participate in preparing his juniors to take part in this competition. This is because he will focus more on his lectures which are entering the final semester.

"For friends, don't be afraid to try, don't be afraid to excel and work even across fields because we don't know where we can work, where we can succeed," said Yaqin.

On this occasion, Yaqin also expressed his gratitude to the Chancellor of UNS and his staff, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, UNS and his staff, supervisors, parents, and friends who have supported him in participating in this competition.

"It is hoped that UNS will continue to excel, especially in this KN-MIPA," concluded Yaqin.
