FK UNS: Learning Strategies during the Covid-19 Pandemic

"Blended learning will be a learning option"

Currently, the e-learning program is becoming a hot topic of conversation in the world of education. As technology becomes more sophisticated, it will affect learning methods and will become more sophisticated as well. The government is currently working on regulations for e-learning. "The government will issue regulations for the implementation of e-learning or online lectures in the near future."

E-learning is one of the learning systems that now are becoming popular, especially in the midst of the corona virus pandemic. Almost all educational institutions implement a distance learning system by utilizing technology to minimize the risk of Corona virus spread.

To switch from a face-to-face learning model or meet in person, then change to online requires a lot of effort and money. However, this can be started with the Blended Learning model. What is blended learning? The Blended Learning model is basically a combination of the advantages of learning that is done face-to-face and virtually.

E-learning provides an opportunity for students to independently take control of learning success. Students are free to decide when to start, when to finish, and which part of the module they want to study first. If then there are still things that he does not understand, the student can contact the lecturer via email, chat or participate in interactive dialogue at certain times. The students can also read the results of the discussion on the message board available on the LMS (Learning Management System).

Prof. Ari Natalia Probandari, dr., M.P.H., Ph.D.
Head of Doctoral Program in Public Health, FK UNS

Prof. Ari Natalia Probandari, dr., M.P.H., Ph.D., lecturers of Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sebelas Maret (FK UNS), on the sidelines of her teaching activities (online) said (18/2/2021): "In current and future learning, blended learning will be a learning option. Students can be given learning videos that can be accessed independently. The learning video must be designed according to the learning objectives. For learning purposes that target knowledge, the use of videos can be accompanied by synchronous interactive discussion sessions. For the purpose of learning skills, the use of videos needs to be accompanied by practical sessions. For example, for skills learning, students may be asked to study videos before / after a synchronous session with a trainer. In addition, in learning skills, students can be given learning videos and assignment projects. In addition to this assignment project, it will function to apply the knowledge that has been given in the video, which can later be used to assess the achievement of learning objectives. Lecturers need to provide feedback on the assignment project. The process of making an assignment project can also be recorded in a video, so that the lecturer is helped to provide feedback."

It is difficult for us to predict when the pandemic will end. However, with all the available efforts, we hope that the pandemic can be overcome. Therefore, in the current condition, we have to find ways we can do quality learning. Maybe not all of the learning objectives that we have set in the curriculum can be achieved optimally in learning during the pandemic. Priority learning objectives need to be formulated.
